InsideOut ii is a portfolio of prints by North Queensland Aboriginal, Islander and non-Indigenous artists which follows on from our previous exhibition in 2013. InsideOut ii s a great opportunity for our members to exhibit in the most prestigious printmaking international forum.
As in Inside/Out I, each artist (or pair of collaborators) will produce a bi-horn shaped etching plate like the breast plates introduced by New South Wales Governor ‘Gubba’ Lachlan Macquarie (1809 - 1821). They were originally presented to ingratiate Aboriginal leaders to facilitate diplomatic cooperation and assuage the social effects of exploiting the land and the people. These ‘King’ or ‘breast’ plates were also used in other countries colonised by European nations.
Confrontational images, personal views, stories and humour will express a personal ‘transit of the spirit’ as a necessary process of mutual understanding, healing and, ultimately, harmony.
The prints will be launched at InkFest 18, Prints from the InkFest Workshops, 27 Jul – 19 Aug 18 Tank 4, Cairns, displayed alongside the InkMasters International Print Exhibtion. Selected works then will travel to Impact 10 at Santander Spain and to other venues.
