Good things come to an end

Inkmasters Cairns ceases business 30 June 2022

To all our friends and supporters, we at InkMasters bid you a fond farewell.

At our General Meeting on 9 June, InkMasters’ Committee and membership voted to take the formal steps necessary to wind up our organisation. Since forming in 2011, InkMasters has conducted workshops, classes and mentoring programs for diverse groups of creative folk. Since 2017 we have provided access to printmaking facilities and a home for multi-arts activities and events. Numerous exhibitions have been curated and toured. InkFest, our biennial festival of all-things-print has been delivered five times, growing in size, scope and stature.

We have been successful in securing grants, sponsorship and donations for specific projects, and some grants have allowed us to engage project officers for a period of time, but most of our activities, plus the administration of our organisation, have been carried out by volunteers. Now, with some volunteers planning to retire from the Committee of Management, the time has come for us to wind up InkMasters.

The great news is that while we relinquish the lease on the InkMasters Print Workshop in Cairns at the end of June, NorthSite Contemporary Arts Ltd has successfully applied for the lease on the building. InkMasters members have voted to pass our surplus assets to NorthSite, and NorthSite’s Board has elected to accept our assets – including equipment, furniture, tools, materials and print collection. This means that the resources that InkMasters has accumulated will remain in the Cairns area and accessible to local artists. We thank the Director and Board of NorthSite and Cairns Regional Council for working with us to achieve the best possible outcome for our artists.

Workshops and classes currently running will continue to be delivered under NorthSite’s auspices after end of June 22, and no doubt new programs and opportunities will emerge. We strongly encourage InkMasters members to become members of NorthSite, and to throw their support behind that organisation, especially given its strong affiliation with and commitment to printmaking artists.

The team at InkMasters wishes all the many wonderful, creative people we have been in contact with over the years – locally, nationally and internationally – our very best wishes for success in all their artistic and other endeavours.

Go well, stay safe and keep on inking!
