Anna Eglitis at the workshop
It was such a pleasure to have Anna visit the workshop. Now retired, Anna Eglitis is a north Queensland painter, printmaker and teacher. She is a peer artist to the late Ray Crooke, Percy Trezise, Dick Roughsey and Thancoupi. Eglitis’ work features in significant collections including the National Gallery of Australia and the Cairns Regional Gallery, and a retrospective survey including work made as early as 1992 and up to 2016 was shown at Canopy Art Centre Cairns in 2017. Anna has significantly enriched Cairns through educating a generation of Indigenous artists and by securing funding from Bob Hawke to set up facilities and provide funding for the operation of the Cairns TAFE in 1984. This was first ATSI art centre in Australia and she taught there for 25 years. Inkmasters honors her contribution to the arts in the InkMasters Print Award during the biennial Inkfest - a festival of all thing print with the Anna Eglitis Printmaking Prize.
